CONTINUITY OF OPERATIONS PLANNING

We believe in the importance of being prepared for catastrophic events. Preparing, Planning, Testing and Maintaining your plan are critical aspects of an effective response to any catastrophic event whether man made, technological, or natural. We at MABE are available to help our members address these issues.

There are also many tools to help employees be better prepared. The national Incident Management System (NIMS) course can be taken on line at http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/is700.asp. This should be mandatory training for anyone involved in emergency response activities.

In addition, it is important for to determine who essential employees are, and consider their families. Your essential employees are much more likely to be available if they know their families are taken care of. FEMA and the Red Cross have published the attached document as a start for families to be prepared.

Here are some forms that can be used to help assess potential risks to your operation and can be used for prioritizing your planning efforts. These are Excel worksheets that will tabulate a combination of variables to provide you with a "Risk Weighting".

Risk Assessment Worksheets

We have been involved in several recent presentations on Pandemic Planning as well as the larger role of Continuity of Operations Planning, and offer the following sheet as additional resources that you may find useful in dealing with this subject:
