ICE - In Case of Emergency -
In the most recent issue of Professional Safety, the American Society of Safety Engineer's (ASSE) publication, they have joined with rescue personnel in asking that people store an emergency contact number in their cell phone under the abbreviation "ICE". This can then be used by emergency personnel to quickly obtain information if you are incapacitated. Here is a powerpoint presentation that the ASSE has made available: In Case of Emergency

Get Kids involved in Safety! -
It's no secret that we learn faster and are more open to new ideas when we are younger. We can set good examples for our children by getting them involved in what is important in our lives and getting them involved in promoting safety, healthy environments and personal wellness. The American Association of Safety Engineers (ASSE) runs an annual "Youth Job Safety Poster Contest" where children in 5 age groups have a chance to win cash rewards for their posters. Go to the ASSE website for more information at:

Free OSHA Posters and Publications -
Advertisements suggesting that OSHA workplace posters must be purchased from private companies may be misleading employers. OSHA reminds employers that official posters such as the OSHA Workplace Poster are available free for the asking. Posters, and most publications, are available at no cost to anyone who asks simply by visiting the publications page on the agency's Web site, or by calling the publications office at (202) 693-1888.
Playground Safety -
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is one of the leading authorities in playground safety. They publish a handbook that can be downloaded from their website and used as a guide in designing and evaluating playgrounds. The handbook can be downloaded here:
