The attached tool box safety talks were developed as a joint project with Harford County. Harford County sought these as a tool to improve the level of hazard awareness among employees.
- "Using this program created a new opportunity for communication with personnel. We looked at doing this program to open up the lines of communication with our staff members. We developed this because management heard that employees were afraid to discuss safety concerns with their supervisors."
- "We used this program to promote a heightened awareness of safety, and to get staff members to start thinking and talking about safety on a regular basis."
These short talks can be accomplished in a short amount of time with a small to medium sized group. They can be facilitated by mid-level supervisory employees who are responsible for managing the safety of groups of employees. The talks are meant to be documented and records retained to demonstrate that training has been provided and discussed.
Tool box talks are a valuable tool to reinforce safe work practices, and are one aspect of a comprehensive training program. These toolbox talks should not be considered to be a complete safety program.
There are other resources for tool box talks as well. Among many are the following:

Please feel free to download these individually or in sets to assist you in your ongoing efforts to provide adequate training to all employees.
Ideally, the effective use of tools such as these should be incorporated into the goals and objectives of the supervisory personnel presenting the training.
